The central Bank of Ghana (BoG)
issued a directive to banks in Ghana stating that by the end of the year 2022,
all bank transactions in the country can only be done with only the ECOWAS card
popularly known as Ghana card and that all Ghanaians who wish to engage in any
bank transaction in the country must get a Ghana card.
But this directive didn’t go well
with the APC founder and leader Dr. Hassan Ayariga who believe that the bank
has no legal right to make only the Ghana card a means of identification for
bank transactions.
“We have passports, we have
voters ID cards and now Ghana Cards. Let the government know these documents
are proof of identification issued by the government of Ghana.” He added.
The APC founder added that he
registered for the Ghana card in 2019 but still has not receive his card, he
said he is been making follow up since but to no avail but the National
Identification Authority (NIA) keeps telling him to report to the Police
service that his card is missing before they can reprint one for him, but Dr.
Hassan Ayariga said he can’t report for a missing card when actually no ID card
was issued to him after registration.
Dr. Hassan Ayariga has decided
also join many Ghanaians who are fighting against the directive of the Bank of
Ghana and also demands that the National Communication Authority (NCA) should
stop the ongoing sim card reregistration exercise that is putting Ghanaians
through exhaustive moments.
Dr. Hassan stated that no one can
force the Ghana card on Ghanaians and if this directives and decisions to
monopolize the Ghana card is not halted then the case will then be taking to
the legal fraternity for final jurisdiction on the matter
“What is happening in our nation Ghana?
We have passports, we have voters ID cards and now Ghana Cards. Let the
government know these documents are proof of identification issued by the
government of Ghana. Telecos (MTN) and bank of Ghana cannot reduce acceptance
of identification to only Ghana Cards. What form of documents (ID) will they
accept from a foreigner who visits Ghana for business or holidays?
It is only in Ghana that only one
form of identification will be acceptable for transactions. Please don’t mess
our nation up. Please remember, No conditions is permanent. Governance is a
continuous business.
I have registered for my Ghana
card since 2019 till date I don’t have it and am being told to go to the police
to report of my missing Ghana card before I can be issued with another one. How
can I report of a missing card when I have not received any?
Certainly Our Courts will
determine this matter and expect it very soon. No one can force Ghana card on
us. Look at how Ghanaians are suffering because of your incompetence.”
