BAWKU CONFLICT: KUSAUG (KUSSASI) YOUTH MOVEMENT RELEASES PRESS STATEMENT

Tribal Conflicts

Since the later part of last year, 2021, the Bawku Municipality in the upper east region of Ghana is been going through tribal conflict between the Mamprusis and the Kusassis which now resulted to killing of innocent people. According to History, the Bawku conflict started more than two (2) decades ago.

Even though a lot of killing is going on, with both tribes accusing each other of been responsible for the killings of innocent souls who in any way may not be involved in this tragedy, official report has not indicated or identified any tribe associated with either of the accusations.

The Kasaug Youth Movement on Sunday released the Press Statement below;

“PRESS RELEASE

23rd January 2022.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE,

Attention:

To all media houses.

UNIDENTIFIED MEN BELIEVED TO BE MAMPRUSIS SHOT AT A CROWD IN BAWKU TOWN, LEFT SOME DEAD, AND OTHERS INJURED.

We have again this afternoon got some sad incidents of gunshots within Bawku town which led to some casualties.

Some lawless individuals believed to be Mamprusi settlers went to a youth base where people sit to discuss daily issues, and shot at them.

We understand some of them have died while others are receiving medical treatments as a result of the unprovoked attack.

We are not quite surprised about this unspeakable act by these lawless people.

It is trite knowledge that, previous years, some of the Moshies in the Bawku Town had always involved in the conflict in support of the Mamprusi settlers.

However, this recent incident, all moshies have decided to stay neutral in solidarity of their brother, Hon. Hamza Amadu, the current Municipal Chief Executive, who needs their absolute support to have a peaceful environment to deliver his mandate at the Municipal Assembly.

This declaration not to involve in any conflict again has sparked emotions and fear among the Mamprusi settlers, and all attempts by these lawless individuals to involve and include the Moshies to fight in their favour couldn't yield any positive results.

Once these blood tasty Mamprusis failed to convince them by bringing them on board, the only way left to cause disaffection between Kusaas and Moshies is by killing them (Moshies) and putting the blame on us (Kusaas).

In less than an hour after shooting incident, the house of the late Chief of Wande, near Possum was burnt to ashes.

Question: How could Kusaas burn the house of their own kingsman? Is this a clear indication of a planned attack to feign as a retaliation?

These their treacherous plans designed to rope other tribes in, all started with the killing of a pregnant woman at Daduri, then followed the killing of Awudu welder, and today’s heinous villainous acts by these lawless individuals whose aim is to destroy the area because they do not have anything to lose.

Kusaug Youth Movement (KYM) strongly condemns this cowardly and dastardly act and urge the security agencies in Bawku to investigate and bring these individuals to face the wrath of the law. Their blood and brains are always ready to plan and maim, kill and destroy.

We believe that the Mamprusis settlers are being emboldened by the Nayiri.

There is a leaked audio recording that is circulated on social media where the content among other things, points to the fact that the Nayiri is going to support his people with guns and ammunition as well as send some warriors to Bawku to fight against the Kusaas. In another audio recording, one Mamprusi man could be heard saying in Mampruli, that while they kill Kusaas, they should burn their houses and render them homeless, and if possible, topple the President of Ghana and add it to the power of Nayiri. All the above, including many other forms of calling for war, tell everyone how mischievous and war-seeking they are.

We, therefore, by this statement, urge the national security minister to investigate this issue and should not take it as a mere threat.

We also call on government to restrain the security agencies in Bawku from escorting people across the Ghana-Togo and Burkina Faso boarders. We are aware all land boarders are closed.

Thanks.

Signed

President-KYM
