A group of academics, professional colleagues
of Late President John Evans, students, family and appointees of President John
Evans Atta Mills has today 27th January, 2022 announced the establishment
of the John Evans Atta Mills (JEAM) Memorial Heritage.
According to a statement released by the
Governing Board of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage and signed by
its Board Chairman Mr. Alex Segbefia, former Minister for Health under the Atta
Mills Administration, the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage will be
launched at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana on the 1st of
February 2022.
The Memorial Heritage is a non-profit,
independent, non-partisan organization anchored in Professor Mills’ passion and
commitment to inclusivity, transparency, accountability and his relentless
quest for peace and a better society.
Tasked to deliver the main speech at the
Launch of the Memorial Heritage will be Senior Economist and elder statesman,
Mr. Kwame Pianim.
The official theme for the Launch is, ‘The
man John Evans Atta Mills – 10 years on.’
Also, There will be thematic presentations by
Professor Akua Kuenyehia, who is a former President of the International
Criminal Court, the Hague, Professor Francis Dodoo, a former Pro-Vice
Chancellor of University of Ghana will also be making a presentaion and aslo to
give statement at the launch is four-time Olympian and Dr. Esther Ofei-Aboagye,
a former Director of the Institute of Local Government Studies.
According to the Board Chairman Mr. Alex
Segbefia, the JEAM Memorial Heritage will be formally launched by, His Excellency
John Dramani Mahama, former President of Ghana and Vice President to late
President John Evans Atta Mills.
The launch will be chaired by Nana Kobina
Nketsia V, Paramount Chief of the Essikado Traditional
Area in the Western Region.

Brief Profile of Late former president His
Excellency John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills.
John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills was born on 21st
July 1944, he was a Ghanaian politician and legal scholar who served as
President of Ghana from 2009 until his sudden death on 24th July
2012. He was inaugurated on 7th January, 2009, having defeated the
governing party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
in the 2008 Presidential and parliamentary elections on the ticket of then and
now opposition party the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He was previously the Vice-President from
1997 to 2001 under President Jerry Rawlings, and he contested unsuccessfully in
the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections as the candidate of the National
Democratic Congress (NDC). He was the first Ghanaian head of state to die in
office.
He was succeeded by his Vice president John Dramani
Mahama was his running mate in the December 2008 presidential and Parliamentary
elections.
